Description
Tender coconut malai is the soft, jelly-like white flesh found inside young green coconuts. It’s mildly sweet, creamy in texture, and highly hydrating. It’s commonly used in desserts, beverages, and health-focused dishes.
How We Prepare Tender Coconut Malai
- Select good-quality tender coconuts
- Shake them — they should have plenty of water.
- Ask for “soft malai” coconuts.
- Open the top using a cleaver or coconut opener.
- Carefully pour out the coconut water into a clean container (use it for drinks or freezing).
- Scoop out the malai using a spoon or scraper.
- Be gentle — it’s soft and tears easily.
- Rinse lightly to remove shell bits (optional).
- Use directly or move to storage (see below).
